Question:

I had a water stain on my ceiling, I used a stain deadener to hide the stain and some lightweight spackling compound to hide the holes made to drain the water a yr ago. I gave a first coat on those stains on Friday and then on Saturday, we painted the ceiling. Three hours later I noticed a crack in the ceiling - it was just on the paint (and stipling); it was not on the holes filled but close. I now have a 2 x 1/2" spot which is to the gyproc...again, no holes shown. I tried to repair with the instafil and a sponge as recommend by a clerk, but it does not work, the stipling effect is not there.

Answer:

When it comes to repairing textured ceilings, you're best off to leave it to the pros or accept that some signs of the repair will show. The stain should not show under a good stain deadener but on the crack, you might want to try a bit of fibreglass mesh tape instead of just joint compound.
