Top > Paint > Drywall

Question:

During the past few years, water has been leaking onto the bathroom ceiling. This year it got worse and a lot of the existing oil primer and paint has peeled and fallen off. The water drops also contained white powder and I think my ceiling is probably plaster instead of drywall. Now the leak is fixed. Almost the whole ceiling areas has been scraped to the plaster surface and it is quite flat with light yellowish stain. About the preparation and repainting, what is the best way to do it? Using oil primer and paint?

Answer:

Your primer should be one that is clearly marked for use under either oil or water based paints. After that, its a simple matter of applying the finishing coat.
