Could you please tell me what type of paint - latex or oil do you recommend for exterior surfaces? The window frames and trim have an oil based paint on them now.

Paint technology has come far enough that I don't think I'd ever be justified in suggesting oil based paints anymore. Latex has all the pluses with it - environmentally friendly to produce & use, easy clean up, easily applied, easily prepared for, all finishes we ever had and then some, etc.
