Question:

We've just bought an older home. Previous people installed new oak staircase. Looks lovely BUT: (18 steps to second floor) They're very slippery! Don't want to cover with carpet. Our little dog fell down steps several. Next will be us.

Answer:

You can apply a clear liquid plastic or lacquer to it but before it dries, sprinkle a bit of sand from a salt shaker or some such on it.

In the interests of retaining credibility and in fairness to all, I cannot recommend prices, people nor companies for various projects.
