Question:

I have purchased a huge ceiling fan for my home. I have noticed however that there appears to be a build up of grease and dust above the fan on the stipple ceiling. How do I get this off without ruining the carpet below, and not ruining the ceiling.

Answer:

There really isn't away to get this stuff off the ceiling without doing damage to the texture. The floor can be protected with drop sheets and if you feel better about it, the blades can also be removed, cleaned and replaced. The reason the ceiling is stained is because the fan is drawing air upward and that should not happen. These fans move enough air to accomplish thier prupose by always blowing air downward. Neither should it ever be turned off.
