Question:

I have taken out a wall in my kitchen and replaced it with a 6" steel beam. I would like to drop the ceiling 6" from the joists to install drywall. Do you have any ideas on how to do this?

Answer:

Hang your ceiling framing (1X3 16" O.C.) from the joists that are there and cross brace them every four feet along the length. If you put up the strapping along the wall first, you should have no trouble keeping things level even if you have to use a string.
