Our very old house has a decorative plaster ceiling in the kitchen. Over the years it has become dirty, as well there are a few small cracks.
Answer:
Because there is no way to exactly match the pattern of the decorative ceiling, you may very well be into either tolerating the cracks or re-doing the whole thing. To clean it, just scrub with soap and hot water. This cannot be done if its gypsum board but plaster will certainly tolerate it.
