Question:

As a precursor to finishing my basement, I thought that I would attempt to drywall and tape my garage walls - a good way to test my skills, I reasoned. The job has not turned out as well as I had expected and the seams are a little visible I am now wanting to finish the walls with a paint-like product that will hide some of my mistakes and make the seams less visible. At the same time, I do not want a finish that will appear contrived or over-powering.

Answer:

There are several such products on the market but I'm afraid they're not all that good at hiding joints. What I've done in the past is put wooden strapping over the joints - that hides them but its only worth it if you can use something as narrow as a 1X3. By the way, normally the mistake we novices make with joint compound is that we use too much of it.
