Top > Attic > Mould

Question:

I was wondering can I clean attic mold myself and how and with what and so I have to replace all the insulation? It is a level 3 mold some spots not all over in the attic. At ths point we are wondering if we should fix it or walk away from this house?

Answer:

Mold is an indication of a lack of ventilation or excessive heat loss and a lack of ventilation to the attic. Properly insulated and ventilated, the attic will itself do away with the mold. It is nearly impossible to over ventilate the average residential attic. It is as important for air to have access to the cavity from under the eaves as it is for air to have an opportunity to exhaust as high up on the roof as possible. Proper soffit venting in combination with “U” channels and gable-to-gable baffled ridge venting appears to be the most cost effective, passive way of accomplishing this.

Telephone and E mail information is always free so please don’t hesitate to take advantage of it.

In the interests of retaining credibility and in fairness to all, I cannot recommend prices, people nor companies for various projects.

Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
