Question:

We have just finished installing a new interlock driveway. There is still about 6 inches of gravel and sand between us and our neighbours slopped yard. This slope runs along the middle third of the length of our driveway and then dips down at the end (lower than our driveway). I would like to know whether we should be concerned over the run-off of water and melting snow on our new driveway (we have sloped it toward the street) and is there a solution to diverting the water. Is there some kind of drainage pipe which could be installed before we add curbs to this side of our driveway?

Answer:

At least a foot from your driveway, you could dig a trench toward the street and it should be deep enough to accommodate four inches of gravel, a 4" drainage line complete with sock and then another six inches of gravel before laying in the top soil.
