Question:

A friend of mine needs to change her toilet seat cover but cannot remove the bolts. The top of the bolts have broken off from corrosion and the other part is stuck in the socket. How can she get them out without cracking the tank?

Answer:

If the bolts are brass, you can drill into them by holding the corroded nut with locking pliers. If they're plastic, you can do the same thing. Whichever it is, you can then turn steel screws into the holes (so be careful of the size you drill) and now you have a handle that can be used like the head of the bolt would have been.
