Question:

The outlet from the basement sump exits the basement wall at ground level with a pipe carrying water 15' or more which then flows out over the back yard, downgrade from the house. We want to bury the outlet pipe; how should we attack this job? How deep should the pipe be buried? How far should the pipe run away from the house? What would the water finally be dispersed into?

Answer:

The pipe will have to be buried deep enough to be below the frost line and it must still slope downward toward the end. The length of it doesn't really matter as long as there are no spots high enough to not permit the pipe to empty by way of gravity once the pump turns off. I like to see these things dump water as far from the house as possible.
