Question:

I have looked through the Archives...some things really helped but this one eludes me. We have a cottage up north of Coldwater and have just replace our compost toilet with a new septic. Septic is done just need to hook up. My issue is venting...Where the only toilet is and the septic pipe enterance to the unheated crawl space is under a large wall to wall window...how do I vent this and other fixtures going into it?

Answer:

I'd probably introduce two 45-degree elbows to get it past the window and go up from there. Your local building authority (city hall) should be consulted before you do this though because plumbing bylaws in your jurisdiction might object to elbows below certain levels. If its permitted, you'll also want to plan it so sinks and other fixtures are less than six feet from it or you may end up with insufficient air access to it.

In the interests of retaining credibility and in fairness to all, I cannot comment on specific products, recommend prices, people nor companies for various projects.

Telephone and E mail information is always free so please don’t hesitate to take advantage of it.

Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
