Expert Q
Question:
we had a major flood. water backed up from toilet unto ceramic floors, down molding, into finished basement (ceiling, walls, ceramic floor put on cement all wet). Insurance adjuster is trying to convince me I don't need to change ceramic or wood under them. If contaminated water got into the grout and the subfloor would it not be prudent to replace all. what about the walls, ceilling etc, even if certain portions dry out should they not be changed?
Answer:
The floors arenot really a concern because they will not have absorbed much of the water and they dry out but the walls will absorb a lot and then develope moulds that you don't want to be ingesting. That portion of walls and ceilings which were soaked should be replaced even if only from a health point of view.
