The racks on our dishwasher are starting to rust in spots. This causes rust on the sides of our dishes. Can we coat the rust with some kind of paint or something like that? It's just spots of rust not large areas.

Try an electrical suppy store. They have a sort of plasticized coating electricians dip tool handles in to insulate them from shock. I don't know how well it works but at least you'll know its safe.
