In N. W. Ontario we tend to accumulate a lot of snow on the roofs of our homes during the winter. Will a typical ridge vent that is covered by snow allow proper air flow in my vaulted roof structure, or should I purchase a roof vent with a tower attached?
Answer:
To me a typical ridge vent has baffles in it to keep snow and rain from blowing in and yes, it breathes very nicely indeed through snow. If you were going to use any other kind of vent on a vaulted roof, you'd have to install one between each pair of rafters to have efficient upper roof cavity ventilation.
