Question:

I want to put a cover over my existing deck. It measures about 8x20. I only want to cover 12ft of it. I want to cover and shingle it. I plan on using 4x4s on concrete for support. Should I attach the cover to the wall of the house or let it float. If I attach it I will have to go through shingles as this is the way the house is built.

Answer:

If you're on support posts, I wouldn't suggest attaching the roof to the existing roof because the heaving will certainly effect the main roof in time.
