Question:

I really need help on this one. I have not been able to use my ensuite shower for two weeks now(not a crisis-just a pain). There is a gap around the outside of the drain cover(about 1/4"). Once before, the caulking came out of the gap and water damaged the ceiling downstairs. I have tried both bathroom caulking and tub/tile caulking and have let it cure as long as four days. But after a couple of showers, the stuff "sinks" or peals away. As a prep I have scraped away all of the old stuff, wiped out the gap, and dried with a hair dryer - it's clean and dry!
The new caulking just does not want to cure for some reason!?

Answer:

You have to completely disassemble the drain and clean it off down to virgen metal or ABS of whatever it is and then apply your caulking bead (s) to wherever two pieces meet before tightening things up.
