Question:

I recently had a handyman install a new steel door as well as a new storm door on my house. As soon as it started to get cold, I had major condensation build-up on the storm door. Now that it has turned much colder, that condensastion has now turned to frost and ice build-up coating the top corners and the entire window of the storm door. I am asuuming that there must be warm air escaping somewhere. The steel door seems to close quite tightly and the only condensation I can see on it is at the bottom.

Answer:

This system is not recommended by metal door manufacturers. That is partly because of the opportunity for heat to build up between the two doors creating a negative impact on door insulation, paint and trim. If the introduction of a storm door is a necessity, the recommended caulking bead applied to the jamb for the storm door frame to be attached to, should not be applied along the top.
