I am replacing part of a counter top at my cottage and wanted to know if there is some substance I can put on a mitered joint to prevent water from getting into the chip board material. This is at a 90-degree corner. I thought of some paraffin wax on the joint before joining with the little bolt clamps. Contact cement might work too but makes working with the joint during assembly impossible.
Answer:
I've always used silicone caulking for this. It holds well as an adhesive and at the same time, is water resistant.
