Expert Q Ren Molnar Q&A Archive
Top > Sealant > Window Well

Question:

Our recently purchased house is approx. 90 years old with below ground basement windows. The windows are on the side of the house where there is a mutual driveway that is paved right up to the foundation (no grass or dirt). There was never any provision made to keep water from running right off the driveway into the wooden window box. It leaks into the basement around the old window frames. I want to attach a plastic bubble over the well but there is nothing to attach it to except the ashphalt itself and the siding on the house. Is this possible or should I sink a metal well into the asphalt first?

Answer:

excavating inside the window well is quite out of the question so the bubble is about your only choice if you do not want to dismantle the driveway and the well. There are all kinds of adhesives and sealants that will help that bubble protect your basement window.
