Question:

We have a low slope roof with an even gentler sloped (20-degrees) roof attached with eight skylights in it. We've had leaks in the skylight roof for years, especially when the rain is blowing hard but only after several hours have passed. Sometimes it drips long after the rain has stopped. The roof above was redone last year, complete with 6 foot of ice and rain shield under the shingles. The seals on the skylights (eight years old) still look good so the leak is coming from somewhere above. Is there any way of tracing the leak, maybe with coloured water or something? I've tried sitting up there with the hose running on each section at a time but there were no leaks.

Answer:

No need to trace. You can take off all the old sealant down to clear metal and replace it. That's most likely where the leak is coming from.
