Question:

My 14-year-old house has 2 stainless steel flues coming out of the chimney top. Rain is leaking in around the outside perimeter of the flues. When I had the roof reshingled 6 months ago, the roofer applied caulking around the outside of the flues, which worked for a while. Is there a product on the market which will fit over the chimney top to stop water from entering for good?

Answer:

Not really. The caulking system seems to work best but before new caulking is applied, all the old stuff has to be removed right down to vergin metal. The new will not adhere to the old for very long normally.
