Question:

We have a 10 year old house in Kanata (ON) that has a couple of cracks in the basement floor. We are finishing the basement and have been advised that we should seal the cracks before putting down carpeting to prevent Radon gases from seeping through these cracks. What would you suggest to use for the sealing?

Answer:

I'd probably seal with a good caulking compound and expect it to only prevent radon from coming up. Other than that, if there are no water stains around the crack, I wouldn't worry a whole lot about it.
