Question:

I have recently finished my basement and installed insulation, vapour barrier and dry wall, on the walls. Should I caulk the space between the floor and the dry wall or leave this open for air circulation? I will be installing carpeting on the floor. Which should I install first, the baseboard or the carpet? If it can be done either way what are the pros and cons of each?

Answer:

I wouldn't bother with the caulking becuase for the amount of air circulation you'd gain or lose, it wouldn't pay for the compound after several years. I like to put the carpet down first so the baseboard covers the edges of it.
