I just had porcelin tile (unglazed, unsealed) installed. After the grout was put in and the tiles were dry I noticed stains from the grout all over the tiles. The contractor then sealed the tiles and grout. The tiles still look horrible (swirls of grout residue are visible everywhere). I tried to wash, but I fell that the tile has been absorbed and been permanently stained. The tiles were $3 each, so they are of good quality. I am thinking now that they should have been individually sealed prior to installation. Is there any way to clean these tiles?
Answer:
As far as I know you'll be replacing the tiles because they come in colour batches (like wallpaper) and replacing only the stained ones will show. Taking the grout stains off at this point is all but out of the question without damaging the surface of each tile.
In the interests of retaining credibility that I worked several decades to establish and in fairness to all, I don’t comment on various (building, electrical, plumbing) codes, brand-specific products, recommend prices, people nor companies for various projects.
Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
