Last summer during the blackout, I spilled the contents of a cintronella candel on my wood deck. I used paper towels to clean the mess, but as you can imagine the hot oil/wax seeped into the wood leaving it looking real bad. I was told to let time wear out the spill. Is there anything else that can be done short of replacing the wood planks that were affected.

You might consider applying heat from a hair dryer to it a few minutes at a time but all that will do is accelerate the time aspect of getting rid of it.
