Question:

We have a cold storage which is under the front verandah, at the top of it we want to drill a hole to get some air into it, but there is a board that goes all around, which is about 12 inches high 1+1\2 inches thick, which we will have to cut through. If we make the hole below the plank we will come out too low and be in the ground. We were thinking of drilling through the plank and then through the cement?

Answer:

That's really the only way to do it. You might try to determine whether this plank is supporting something. If it is, you may have to change plans. If it is not, try to drill as close to the centre of the depth of the plank as you can in order not to lose any of its integrity.
