I have a 10 foot reach-in closet with 4 foot bifold doors. This leaves space that is difficult to access. I thought the closet design sites would suggest solutions -- but I've found nothing addressing this problem. Is my house unusual? If not, is it customary to go ahead and put in shelves and rods with a space to the front -- as though there were a door there, or is it more common to build cross-wise shelves into the end parts and only store very rarely used things there? I have considered having the doors widened, but that seems drastic and would cost wall space.
Answer:
I'd give up the wall space. Short of that, I'd be tempted to put in back-to-front shelves int he hard ot reach areas. What a shame it would be though because today's closets are very spacious for a reason - we use that much in the way clothes.
