Question:

I love your program on CFRA - it is a wonderful public service - besides your participation in other programs- thank you. I have a leaky foundation wall. The house is about 12 years in Kanata, Ontario. There is a small crack that has started from lower corner of a basement window. It starts out about 1-2 millimeters, hits ground at 30 cm and gradually narrows down to a hairline and stops at about 2 meters below ground level. I have dug out the earth right down to the weeping tiles. The soil that I dug out was heavy clay - and just above the weeping tiles there was a layer of stones 3-4 cm thick. Basement is not finished and there are virtually no water marks on the crack until the cracks runs about 2.5 meter from the starting point.

Answer:

I think all your problems will be looked after if you just clean off the concrete wall and apply a fibre glass auto body patch kit to the crack. Over the weeping tile you might want to lay at least a foot of gravel to keep things flowing.
