Rencently I put laminate flooring in my basement. I followed the manufacturer's instructions to a 'T'. I now have condensation under the concrete floor, between the concrete and the vapour barrier along with a mildewy, moldy type of smell. I would like to add, I do not have a water or ventelation problem in my basement. The basement is completely dry, and there is not a lot of humidity. A while ago to test this, I put a de-humidifier in the basement to check and it didn't collect much; a drop maybe. What can I put on my floor in place of the laminate?
Answer:
Wherever there is air and it is not being moved around, there will be condensation and that appears to be what you're experiencing. It doesn't take a whole lot moisture to create mold and once it starts, it just keeps growing until such time as the cause is removed.
