Question:

I am concerned about finishing the basement. Should I be taking special precautions where the cracks are? I thought it might be best not to insulate the wall at the crack in order to allow warm air to escape to keep the ground from freezing and putting pressure on the repair joint. Is this a good idea, what do you recommend?

Answer:

I wouldn't pay any attention to that at all. It seems to me that if we depend on basement wall insulation to provide enough heat to a crack to keep it from becoming active, our problems have not yet begun.
