Question:

I have a 20 foot fence and I would like to cover it up for privacy with some sort of vine. Which vine should I plant, how many vines will I need to cover this fence completely and when is the best time to plant these vines.

Answer:

I don't know where you live but here in the Ottawa, Ontario area, I did the same project using wild grape vines. After two years, you couldn't tell there was a fence under it all. The plant is a rather prolific weed and I put one in every six or eight inches after rooting them for a month or so in water. Now six years old, we prune it back two or thre times each summer and we have a five-foot high hedge that didn't cost a cent. If we ever decide to get rid of it though, I don't think it will be easy. Good luck!
