There is a dead animal smell in our finished basement. The smell was coming from a closet in the office. We ripped the drywall out and discovered a large ball of furr, just furr, and a wet spot on the 2 x 4 bottom frame. Since this has been cleaned the smell has decreased considerably, but it still smells and I can't continue taking out drywall.

That odour will have permeated much of the absorbent wood and insulation in the area so you have the option of either removing a lot more of it or dropping in at a local butcher shop to ask them what they use to get rid of such odours.
