Question:

How do I remove a hornet's nest from under a deck at the cottage? Thank goodness the deck is about eight feet from ground level.

Answer:

I'm glad you mentioned eight feet. Wait until dark when all the little critters are at home and nicely tucked in, and then pull a plastic bag over the nest and remove it by squeezing off the top of the bag. They don't see anything in the dark so they all stay inside. If you only damage the nest they'll buzz around but they won't go far and you can count on it, they'll have lost their sense of humour! Removing the nest may cause a few anxious moments on the first nest you remove but after that it becomes routine and your courage will certainly impress those who watch - from a distance.
