Question:

I am installing 2x8 pine T&G on 5/8 T&G chip board. This is at a cottsge, the floor is not insulated or heated, although there is skirting around the building. My question is should I put anything between the pine flooring and the T&G chip board to act as a vapor barrier or help with insulation?

Answer:

You'll not help the insulation with anything anyway so you might as well save your money. I used 'five quarters' pine porch flooring throughout my cottage and I didn't even put sheathing under it. The joists are 16" O.C. and they seem to be holding up quite well. As an aside, take the feet off all you couches and big chairs and replace them with upholstered 2" stock lumber so the kids can slide them all over the place without damaging your flooring.
