Question:

My brick chimeny is in need of repair. It is missing a couple bricks at the top and needs to be repointed and a cap put on. I am told that a metal cap is not as good as having a cement top put on. The chimeny is used to vent my gas fireplace. Is it better to go with a metal cap or cement top?

Answer:

Check with the people who service your fireplace because it may have demands of its own and they have to be dealt with.
