Question:
This past summer we purchased a 34 year old house. It currently has a tar & gravel roof that will have to be replaced in the spring. The roof is low slope. We have arranged for 5 different companies to give us quotes for this task. Can you help me understand which of the quotes would be the best solution keeping in mind that we would like the best for the longest period of time as this will be our final house.

If you had a pre-purchase inspection on the house before buying it, your inspector would be the appropriate one to contact on this. You have five quotes which are all on CMHC-recognized (I hope) products so quality should not be a concern here. On the other hand, when you have a variety of quotes on a variety of products, it is difficult to get a credible price comparison.
