We hve a late 1960s bungalow. One corner bedroom (with 2 exterior walls) is extremely cold. Window is new. In extremely cold temperatures, you can see moisture on the inside of the wall - almost looks like frost on the wall. Do we have to tear down all the drywall from ceiling to floor and re-insulate?
Answer:
You should not have to. The trim (casing) around the window can be removed and I think you'll find a lack of insulation and/or vapour barrier there. This is easy to add but would have been easier when the house was built. The trim can be recycled if, after removal, you pull the finishing nails that hold it in place through the back of it rather than trying to hammer them back through the finished face.
