Question:

What should I look for in a new patio door? I'm getting conflicting info from sales people. What's the difference between vinyl/PVC? are they really better than aluminum, fibreglass, wood? What is the difference between a high end and low end door? How about these foam spacers? I would like a door that will last, provide energy efficiency, and if something goes wrong have someone to turn to for recourse.

Answer:

I don't know enough about the foam spacers you speak of to comment but to me, the most important features are: thermal glazed, extruded vinyl frame, at least a half inch between the two sheets of glass, aesthetics. The high end units will be fibreglass or woodand yes, they are better made but 'vinyl is final' and that's hard to beat.
