Question:

When my A/C was installed a few months ago, they drilled a hole through the cement floor by the furnace and routed the drainage tube from the A/C to it. Is this an acceptable practice? If I install a flow through humidifier on my furnace, is it acceptable to also route the drainage from the humidifier through the same drainage hole through the floor? Is there any danger of gasses leaking into the house through this drainage hole?

Answer:

Any low volume draining appliance can be lead into that hole but caulking should be done in the area to ensure that as little of the soil gasses as possible can migrate up into the living cavity of the house.
