Question:

We recently bought a 30 year old rancher on slab. There is a lot of work to be done to the house and we will be starting with the floors first. The existing carpet needs to removed and we do not want to put carpet down again for health reasons. We seem to be getting conflicting stories on which is better 3/8 hardwood glued to the slab or a laminate floating floor.

Answer:

I think there will be far fewer people with health concerns bothered by the plastic laminate flooring than by wood. The laminates absorb nothing while wood is sensitive to atmospheric humidity, expansion, contraction, etc.
