I have been searching the internet for information and I have not found any information on what I am looking. I am hoping that you can help! I was wondering if it is possible to lay tile over existing counter tops if not to I have to remove the top layer and just lay them on the wood? What do I do?

Laying tile right onto the platic laminate won't work well and it certainly won't last. Remove the laminate; the adhesive is heat activated and peels off quite easily with a heat gun, and then you can lay your tiles onto the wooden base that's there.
