Question:

A friend has asked me to mount a metal handrail on a paving stone walkway. The metal posts he wants me to install have a 4" base with holes drilled diagonally. I know I will have to use a hammer drill to drill the holes in the paving stones, but what kind of anchor system should I use? If he wants to remove it in the winter would this make a difference?

Answer:

If he wants them removed during the winter, I'd use wooden plugs to the full depth of the bolts you'll be using but if he does not plan to remove them during freezing weather, you'll have to go with lead lags.
