Question:

We have 50 year old cement asbestos shingle siding on our cottage. They are in good shape but the surface coating (paint?) is flaking somewhat. They have 1/4" vertical ridges so they are not easy to sand completely. I presume I need to scrape somewhat. Should I use a wire brush? What should I do to "repaint" these?

Answer:

The first thing you do is stop dealing with it. Asbestos is a carcinogen and you have to wear special masks and other clothing to deal with it. You'll probably be best off to hire a pro because that's pretty nasty stuff.
