Question:

We are renovating our 40 year old bungalow basement. You have already helped us with our questions about the wall insulation, but now my question is about the insulation of the floor. what do you recommend: do you recommend it at all. We were not going to put a sub floor because my husband is over 6ft and it wouldn't give him much head room at all. We were not going to put any, but wouldn't the floor tend to be cold on the feet. Let me know your ideas and suggestions.

Answer:

The floor is going to stay at about 55F degrees no matter what you put on it. That is why my suggestion has always been to cover it with peel&stick tile and lay in area mats wherever you need them. The peel&stick is easy to repair should that become necessary and at the same time is available in an almost infinite array of colours and/or patterns to fit all tastes.
