Question:

I would like to recover my stairs to my second floor with new hardwood treads. The old treads are recessed into the stringers with a bull nose edge. Can I remove the bull nose and attach the new treads on top of the old ones left in the stringers. I belive this will work but Iam concerned about the upper landing heighth as if not installed the rise will be shorter then all the rest of the steps.

Answer:

Your system is about the only option open to you at this point so I'd go for it but you have to appreciate that this makes that particular portion of the whole stairway a hazard for those who haven't become used to it.

In the interests of retaining credibility and in fairness to all, I cannot recommend prices, people nor companies for various projects.
