Question:

You have a great show! We listen all the time both at our cottage and at home. We are building a screened-in-porch at our cottage. The floor is tongue and groove pine, the ceiling is tongue and grove pine with a v-groove. The walls are also pine. How should we finish the wood? We wish to have a natural finish, and would like to see the pine mature to a mellow tone. Does the floor need a different or harder finish than the walls and ceiling? We appreciate your advice.

Answer:

You just described my own cottage and I used the same liquid plastic finish throughout. To sort of protect the floor, I took all the feet off the couches and other furniture and installed carpet-upholstered 2X4s so the kids can slide them all over the place and not hurt the finish.
