is it o.k. to install hardwood laminate in a kitchen area? my concern would be moisture and steam from sink and appliances. what about real hardwood in a kitchen area?

I'm really not one for installing any seamed vinyl or laminated flooring in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, etc. We have hardwood in our kitchen and the past seven years have confirmed to us that we did not make a mistake. Wood responds in a predictable way to all the abuse whereas the others may not.
