Question:

I am planning on painting/sealing 2000 sq ft of basement in my bungalow. This is a temporary solution to allow my children to play in the basement and cut down on the dust. I think that you recommend sealing the floor over painting it. Are there any disadvantages when sealing the floor when it comes to choosing a finish (tile, wood, carpet, etc...) in the future? Are the fumes from the sealant dangerous for small children? How long does it take to dry/cure before the kids can be running around on it?

Answer:

I prefer to seal concrete because its the least expensive method and it can still accpet carpet of 12X12" peel & stick tiles afterward. I know nothing about what the fumes from various sealants can do to people.
